FAQ
What does MOD in the MOD Puzzle™ stand for?
Modular – is an art form created by joining together standardized units (modules) to form larger, more complex compositions. In some works the units can be subsequently moved, removed, and added to – that is, modulated – to create a new work of art, different from the original or ensuing configurations. -Source Wikipedia 2024
Orientable – directed or adjusted to face any direction
Design – conceived and fashioned in the mind.
How many puzzle shapes are in a MOD Puzzle™?
There are 5 puzzle shapes in a MOD puzzle: 2 inside shapes, 2 edge shapes, and 1 corner shape. These shapes accommodate the protruding and receiving forms of the puzzle. These basic shapes are identified in the installation instructions.
How many designs are on the face of the MOD Puzzle™?
There are two face designs: Four grooves on angle, and two grooves straight.
What size are the puzzle pieces?
Our puzzle pieces are made of sustainably sourced bamboo crafted as 1/2” thick by 8” wide and 8” long squares.
How many total unique designs/pieces are there in a MOD Puzzle?
There are a total of 16 unique pieces in our puzzles. Of course, your individual puzzle may have many more pieces (up to 80 pieces) depending on the design. No matter the size of the puzzle it is made from 16 unique pieces.
Does your puzzle include a picture of the completed puzzle?
Yes, you will receive a picture of the completed puzzle, as well as a picture showing a breakout view of the puzzle shapes and face designs.
Can I get replacement puzzle pictures?
Please email us at customerservice@modpuzzle.com and we can email you a new copy of the completed puzzle, or the breakout image of the puzzle.
Is my MOD Puzzle™ stained?
Your puzzle pieces are stained using an oil based finish.
Can I glue, varnish, or paint my puzzle?
We do not recommend that your glue the puzzle pieces as this will interfere with your ability to dis-assemble and re-assemble the puzzle pieces into other patterns. We also do not recommend the use of any varnish on your puzzle as it can also interfere with the factory-applied finish used on your puzzle.
You can paint the puzzle pieces by first preparing the area to be painted by cleaning the wood, sanding the wood (e.g., with a 150 grit sandpaper) to roughen the finish and allow the paint to adhere to the surface, and then using an appropriate primer and paint of your choice. Fundamentally, we prefer the complexity of the natural tone, color, and grain of the bamboo, and this natural beauty may be lost once the puzzle pieces are painted.
How do I clean my Mod Puzzle?
Please use a clean, soft cloth to dust and spot clean your MOD Puzzle periodically. Because your puzzle is made of wooden material, you should always avoid any excessive moisture from remaining on the surface of your puzzle as this can damage the puzzle pieces.
Is the MOD Puzzle Patented?
Yes, the MOD Puzzle is the subject of pending United States patents as it is unique and can be used to create multiple artform puzzles and murals from the same basic set of puzzle pieces. This is very unusual as most puzzles are a representation of one graphic picture configured using a set of puzzle shapes. We are so much more than this.
Who designed my puzzle?
The smaller 16-piece puzzles like geometrics “Diamonds” were created by Bastian. Bastian works as an aerospace engineer and loves puzzling. The works like “Latitude”, larger murals, and people puzzles like “Happy People” or the “The Game” are the work of Kelsey. Kelsey is a talented Fashion and Materials Designer living and working in London. “The Race” and “The Swimmer” murals and some other puzzles are the work of Angus. Angus stops looking at art just long enough to create some. Many of the 16 to 35 piece puzzles were created by Puneeta, who is Head of Puzzling at MOD Puzzle™ and has a unique understanding of puzzle solutions. She is passionate about all things puzzle.

My puzzle arrived damaged – what do I do?
Upon receipt of your puzzle, please carefully inspect the shipping box, as well as the contents. Damage to the shipping box does not mean that the pieces are damaged as our internal packaging is designed to minimize damage to puzzle pieces. Nevertheless, please do note any damage to the shipping box upon receipt.
Please be sure and confirm any damage to the puzzle pieces before contacting us. If any of your puzzle pieces are damaged in transit, please photograph the damaged piece(s), and email us with a copy of the photo(s) at customerservice@modpuzzle.com. We hope to process all damage claims promptly, so providing pictures in your initial communication will greatly help us in processing your claim.
Can I return the puzzle?
Yes, please refer to our return policy.
Why doesn’t my puzzle look the same color as the image I saw on your website?
All computer monitors have an embedded color profile, and in most cases, what you see on your computer screen will not exactly match the actual tone, grain, and color of our puzzle pieces. Further, since our puzzle pieces are made of natural bamboo material, they may exhibit natural variations in actual tone, grain, and color from one piece to the next or one production lot to the next. Please also note that like other natural wooden products, our puzzles have a tendency to darken over time as they are exposed to natural sun light.
What do I do if I am missing a piece?
This is an extremely rare occurrence, but if you receive an incomplete puzzle, please provide a photograph of the assembled puzzle showing the missing piece(s). Please email us the photo(s) at customerservice@modpuzzle.com so that we can help by replacing the missing piece(s).
Where are MOD Puzzles manufactured?
The MOD puzzle is designed, engineered, and manufactured in California, USA, of imported and domestic components. A Certificate of Authenticity is issued with each puzzle and will be included your box.
Why did you create the MOD Puzzle™?
We wanted to create durable and lasting artworks based on the discipline of the puzzle. We wanted the puzzle to create the works as much as the artist created the work. The discipline and structure of this artform is transformational as it defines not only the visual work but the creation structure of the work as well.
